Recommended Linux Compatible Printer
My Canon Pixima IP5000 printer is nearing eight years old, but it doesn't play well with Linux. Prints B/W fine, but the colors are muddy. Also it is not "network ready" as the new printers are. The final blow, Canon refuses to provide Linux drivers.
Anyway, I mentioned on one post discussing another topic getting an HP printer. That didn't go over so well. I am open to other printer suggestions as I have avoided buying HP products, but if they are the only game in town ... What would you recommend as a color, network ready, inkjet printer for Linux (Ubuntu)? |
HP and Epson are both very well supported---and I had thought things were better with Canon than say 3-4 years ago.
For "photo-quality" color, I favor Epson. I don't know if they have any of the photo printers with a network interface, but why bother? You can simply share the printer from any machine. If you just want general-purpose "utility" color, then I'd look at an HP 4-color or maybe even a color laser. |
HP has always served me well and there is excellent support in CUPS.

In Debian Hp works without any setup.

I was looking at Xerox 6128MFP ( quick guide ) some time ago,
but then the customer (company) decided they don't want such versatile machine. Anyway, Xerox got my interest ... |
My Canon MP560 works great under Debian Squeeze and Arch. :D

IMHO, you want postscript, and then watch your price per page and how often you get ripped off for refills. Your printer cartridge refill guy is often the best place to start asking, because they know how much goes in each cartridge.
I got b/w laser from HP with cups & foozjs and never looked back. |

Any preference between the HP OfficeJet Pro 8100 Printer versus the HP Photosmart 6510 e-All-in-One Printer????
|
Bought the HP OfficeJet Pro 8100 printer. Was on sale. Set-it up the printer (as a wireless Network Printer) under Windows. After the printer was set-up, the Ubuntu computer found the printer immedtately and I was able to successfully print. This replaces my Canon Pixima IP5000 printer.

Like I said Hp just works
Congratulations! |
