Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Recommend print server for Linux?

Looking at getting a print server to put my old HP Laserjet printer on my network.

Can anyone make any recommendations that are friendly towards Linux?

I was looking at the D-Link Express EtherNetwork Fast Ethernet Print Server, didn't see any post here nor on Google.

thanks

I just use an old p166 PC, sits under my HP6l. Nice print server with 64meg ram and a heap of hard disk buffer Still running a real old mandrake 7.0 distro and has been running 24/7 for many years. Shares well with linux and windows boxes

CUPS (Common Unix Printer Service) has good printer support. You may need to also use Samba in order for CUPS to have access to the printer over the network.

Any printer server should work if CUPS supports your printer.

Your right, CUPS works great for my stand alone pritner, but I want to put it on my network so any of my computers can print to it...so I just want to make sure the hardware works with Linux/CUPS before buying it.

I know hardware has gotten better with Linux in the last 5 years, but you never know.

So why not build a print server out of an old PC? Only need an old P120-200 with linux on it. No screen. Works well and has good compatibility with linux and windows boxes. They use very little power...

Cheap too - probably free for an old pentium 1 type box...
