I am looking for a recommendation on an inexpensive mouse pen to use with the GIMP and Inkscape. I have found several brands online and it appears WACOM has the most support. I do not want to spend a lot of money (I understand "you get what you pay for") but I am a beginner.
I don't think they make any of any artistic value for under $50. If they did it'd probably be the size of a postage stamp. Sorry to bum you out but unless you find a deal on ebay for a used one they are going to run you about $99 for a very basic model, to thousands for a graphics tablet/monitor combo. If you look for one on ebay go for any wacom brand ones...they are considered the best and are well supported in Linux.
I got a WACOM Graphire 4x5 at CompUSA for 99$ with a $30 rebate. It is really nice and works very well with Linux. It also came with some pretty nice bundled software like Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.
