Recommend a wireless router, pci card
 

I'm looking for a wireless router and pci adapter combination for my parents. The Linksys I have was overpriced and not terribly good quality. And I've only used PCMCIA wireless cards.

Linux compatibility is an issue, but price is of primary importance.

Wireless routers wouldn't really have any effect on Linux, but the adapter in your machine will. Check out the HCL on this website for a list if wireless cards members have got working under Linux, along with any specific installation instructions. The supported hardlist from projects such as ndiswrapper and madwifi, etc. will also show suitable cards. It's then down to how much yuo have to spend, and which cards your local store has :)

Agreed. I have a 4 year old D-Link router (11b) that does a great job just being what it is - a router. Sits there and waits for someone to talk to it.

I have an old Cisco PCMCIA card I can't upgrade the ucode on because it the only level that I can get to work with Linux.
On another machine I have a generic PCI wireless card - no problems with Mepis.

It's the clients that matter, not the router.

I *know* that. I'm more looking for recommendations on a good combo. I don't need any special features, and the adaptor will be used in a desktop machine so range doesn't matter much.

And I'm ordering from newegg, so I have a pretty wide selection.
