Recognizing/mounting an external floppy disk drive

Hello

I just installed RedHat 7.3 on my HP laptop, zt1250. This particular model has no internal floppy. I do have an external HP branded Mitsumi USB floopy drive. It doesn't seem to be recognized by the system. I basically know very little about Linux since I am a new user, so I am not sure how to proceed.

If you can shed any light, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

mark

I forgot to mention, when i have the USB floppy disk plugged in on startup, I get the line, under the USB controller part (uhb-uhci):
modprobe: modprobe: can't locate module block-major-2
this line repeats 4 times.
When i boot without the drive in place, those lines are not reported.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mark
