Just loaded Mint 17.1 cinnamon 32 bit on Compaq Presario V5000 laptop using wired connection. Wireless button does not light (wireless is not recognized). Did all updates except levels 4 & 5. Still no help. There are no Realtek wireless drivers to download (should be included with the install of Mint). What do you suggest to get the wireless working. This is my first Linux install. Please give step by step instructions. Thank you!
I'm an idiot. I'm thinking I should be finding a driver for:
06:02.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)
Could you direct me to a link or give me advice on the process of updating the driver? Hate to say, I'm used to Windows and this is my first attempt at Linux. Thanks!
Sorry for previous post. Mint is Debian and Ubuntu based if am i not wrong. Look at this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2224920. I hope it will work also for you. But probably better solution is to ask in Linux Mint subforum about this wireless card and how to handle step by step downloading and installing required drivers.
I have nothing to compare the transfer rate to but it does work. Do you think a different driver made for Mint would be faster or the same than one made for Ubuntu? I couldn't find one anyway.
By the way, Mint used to hang up while shutting down at the LM logo screen. Now it doesn't! An extra bonus! Thanks!
