Realtek ALC650 Alsa support?

i have a onboard Realtek ALC650 on my Nforce2 board. and it 'kindof' works with the nvaudio driver, but I would rather use alsa because its more flexible, and it can be made to work with quake 3, as far as I can tell, this driver just wont do quake3.

so I was wondering if alsa even suports this and i was wondering how to install alsa, I mean is alsa a third party driver that goes into the kernel, or is it a collection of 3rd party drivers for sound? or am I way off and its something else.

the reason I ask is cause even after I install alsa, I wouldnt know how to configure it to use a driver that works with my audio.

ok I download their version of alsa at the realtek.com.tw site. and i do ./configure make, checkinstall, and that ./sound devices thing.

next I have to edit my modules.conf and it gives me this nice guide;

Code:
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias usb-controller usb-uhci
#alias sound-slot-0 via82cxxx_audio //remark this line, this is default audio driver

#====== added those lines =============
alias char-major-116 snd
options snd major=116 cards_limit=1
#--- Intel 8x0  and SiS 7012 ----------
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
options snd-intel8x0 index=0 id="ICH"
#--- Via8233 Via686a  -------------------------------
#alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx
#options snd-via82xx index=0 id="VIA"
//=================================
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
#=================================

post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
I dont know where or how to specify my chipset/driver here, and even if I knew where to put it, Im not sure how alsa refers to the Realtek ALC650 chipset.
