I new to linux. I have R.H. 7.1 on a 200mhz PI with a magics20 sound card. I put the RH in a partitionless installation.
At first I had problems getting any sound, but after reading through the back-postings, I got it working by loggin in as root, in failsafe, and running sndconfg (which was gui-like). I had to tell it (KDE/linux) that i was using a compaq sound card in order to get sound???)
Then I wanted video so I tried XMMS (that is *nix vid player right?) , anyway it hangs up my computer, and I have to hit the reset button on the tower ( I,ve done this twice). What is causing the computer to hang? Can I make this XMMS play videos? Or is my comp too old?

i owuldn't expect anything useful in terms of video at that speed. XMMS is NOT a video player. it is a winamp clone that just so happens to have some plugins to play some video files .... poorly. you can get realplayer from real.com but it's hidden quite well.
