Unhappy Random X-Lockup with GeForce4 Ti4600

I'm having trouble with random XFree-lockups (X gets pinned at 99% CPU) with my GeForce4 Ti4600 in debian.
machine: P4-2.53, AGP-bridge: intel 82845G/GL, XFree86 4.2.1, kernel 2.4.20

I've tried both debian-sid and debian-sarge, nvidia-drivers 4191 and 3123, tried append="acpi=off apm=off", disabling AGP, enabling NvAGP, enabling AGPGART, disabling the USB-controller that shared IRQ with the GeForce4...

nv_check says everything is cool...

It doesn't matter if I'm playing UT or browsing the web... I'm able to ssh to the machine to see X or the app pinned at 99% cpu...

I'm getting desperate on this, and have been reading stuff all over internet to find a sollution.

Perhaps someone has experience from these kind of problems, or has any idea for a next step...
