Raid working with Promise SATA150 TX4 Raid?
 

Hi all,

I am helping out a friend with setting up his machine. He has two WDC Raptor drives, and a Promise SATA150 TX4 Raid controller running under Mandrake 9.2.

We have trouble getting the RAID config to work. He has built the raid set, but when we boot into Mandrake, we see the following:

I have the feeling that this driver does not support the RAID functionality, but only acts as a 'normal' controller. Is this correct ?

If so, does a driver exist for this controller that utilises the RAID functionality? I have found this one: http://www.antgel.co.uk/compsci/linu...ise_raid.shtml, but it gives me unresolved symbols when I try to load it.

Any help much appreciated.

Even if the driver doesn't actually configure it as a RAID set you could implement one in software using LVM.

Yes, I know, I could use LVM or software RAID - but I would like to get the hardware part working. Mostly out of principle (otherwise why not buy a normal SATA controller), but I want to make sure I'm not missing something obvious while configuring.

Thanks for the thought though, we might end up doing this. It has the advantage that if the card dies, you are not tied to the same card to restore the data.
