Radeon 9500 GL problem

I have a problem with my ATI Radeon 9500 Pro.

when using glxinfo I find that Direct Rendering is off and that the default is Mesa indirect GL.

I can't run most games in winex, as they crash or run extremely slowly.

I have tried to use the drivers from the ATI website (but being a newb it took me a few minutes to realize that they were not for my version of Xfree86 ....which I believe in MDK9.1 is..... 4.3.x) so it is not withstanding to say that there was a conflict when using the rpm. I have tried the XGL1 drivers and they cause crashes on boot and cause linux to assume I have an incorrect driver (which from reading some other threads...i guess it is). Now I don't know what to do from here. It is important to get the hardware 3D accel working and I really would prefer to not buy a new vid card!

So is there a fix for this anywhere and please remember I am a noob for the most part (although I have some background with this, but not enough to inspire confidence...lol)

anyways, I would appreciate any help.

Cheers,

DH

RADEON 9500 PRO Hardware Acceleration PROBLEMS!!!!

OUTPUT FROM
# X -showconfig
-------------------
XFree86 Version 4.3.0
Release Date: 27 February 2003
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.6
Build Operating System: Linux 2.4.21-0.13mdksmp i686 [ELF]
Build Date: 12 March 2003
Before reporting problems, check http://www.XFree86.Org/
to make sure that you have the latest version.
Module Loader present
-------------------

I have used XFdrake (b/c my version is MDK9.1) and it simply allows me to choose Radeon with 4.3 Hardware Acceleration. With that choice running, I get no direct rendering and the indirect Mesa GL. I have tried tuxracer and it is extremely slow.

thank-you for the link to the ATI drivers that I have already tried (noting that in the original post I indicated that they didn't work because during the rpm install I receive an error message stating that they conflict with a library in 4.3.0. )

I have tried the schneider drivers for the XLG1 as in the readme it stated that they were compatible with the Radeon 9500. However, I run check.sh and I get errors (in the sense that the chech.sh file says it has a syntax error). I have tried forcing the XLG1 drivers and it crashes linux and won't reboot.

I was prompted to go through xf86config after installing the XLG1 drivers. It was of no avail as the system would not boot, whether I used the xf86config or hit ctrl-c to not configure, after installing the XLG1 rpm.

so what is the next step to solving this prob?

Cheers,

DH

search this site and find the answer!
there are drivers for 4.3.0 and they do work
or try google.com/linux and search for
ATI drivers 4.3.0 and the first hit is......
http://www.schneider-digital.de/html/download_ati.html
drivers you need are....
http://www.schneider-digital.de/down...linux_X4.3.zip

After you run fglxconfig hash out the line PCIBUS in the Xconfig
and then your in business

(sorry for the sarcasm)

Thanks,

Malcolm

thanks, you were right though so don't worry about the sarcasm. I found some good info searching the site after my post. Just didn't find it in the initial 100 threads I read....this site is a popular one...lol

but thanks again,

Cheers,
