still cant figure out what it is!

Does it work with just one monitor.

Look through the XFree86.x.log logs in /var/log.

You can try to login as su and type "service xfs start".

does what work with just one monitor?

after u copy the new edited file ....the screens flicker (go black) and then both come back on with the error message!

do i need to download the newest ATI drivers? or something?

and cant seem to find n e things in the log files

the only bit i saw that seemed strange was

(II) Primary Device is: PCI 03:00:0
(II) ATI: Candidate "Device" section "Card0".
(WW) ATI: PCI/AGP Mach64 in slot 3:0:1 could not be detected!
(WW) RADEON: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:3:0:1) found
(--) Chipset ATI Radeon 9500 AD (AGP) found
(II) resource ranges after xf86ClaimFixedResources() call:

what does this mean?

Thanks
Kane

i had the same problem, just run fglrxconfig and do a setup with one monitor, ive never had issues with that on my radeon 8500. However getting dual head working properly is another story
