Radeon 2600 & RadeonHD driver & two monitors

Hello,

First of all, if someone is going to say anything about fglrx or any other driver, please, don't. This thread is about radeonhd, and only about that. I am already aware of the many alternatives available and I am not asking about that here.

I have an ati 2600 card lying around and want to try it with radeonhd on a spare box. If my memory serves correctly the 2600 is based on an r6xx chip, so, according to the wiki I linked in the previous paragraph (chapter 8) it should work with 3d support, if I read correctly. My first question is how good this 3d support would be. I am not interested in high end gaming nor anything like that. I don't use compiz either. I just want a responsive wm and to be able to watch my films, I occasionally like to play neverwinter nights (not II, but the first one). Pretty low standard for that chip, so there shouldn't be a problem if the driver works ok. I'd like to hear opinions/experiences about that.

I would also like to hear about stability, which is indeed my main concern. I don't want to have to reset my box 50% of the times I exit X or launch a gl application.

The whole setup will be using two monitors.

To tell the truth, I have very little faith that I will be able to do something productive with this card, but I figured that giving radeonhd a try couldn't harm either.

So, to sum up

is 3d support on my chip real or something to wait for in 2015?
is this driver stable on r6xx chips?
any problem with multiple monitors setups?

Cheers and thanks in advance.

I have a 2400 pro. I did not get 3d to work, but did not try real hard. I don't use 2 monitors. But I never had any issues with the driver in 2d mode.

Thanks for the response. I guess I will try and see how it works, however I have very little faith about the 3d thingie. But we'll see.
