R128 & AGP problem on XFree86

I cannot get AGP working on my R128 graphics card & XFree86 4.3.0-5 (I am running Debian unstable, kernel 2.6.0-test9).
I get these error message in XFree log:
Code:
(EE) Failed to load module "dga" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) R128(0): No DFP detected
and these warning messages:
Code:
(WW) R128(0): [agp] AGP not available
(WW) R128(0): [agp] AGP failed to initialize -- falling back to PCI mode.
(WW) R128(0): [agp] Make sure you have the agpgart kernel module loaded.
I have agpgart and r128 modules loaded before starting X:
Code:
r128 82988 2
agpgart 20264 0
What could be the problem?
I will post more information if necessary. Thanks.

It appears the module you're attempting to use is not installed.
Instead of 'dga', maybe try the 'r128' module
>>>
Look for a line in your /etc/X11/XF86Config file
that looks like
Driver "dga"
and change it to
Driver "r128"

Of course, my Driver is "r128" indeed.. dga is just one of modules I am not interested at this point:
Load "dga"

http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/.../msg00090.html may be of some help

Not the answer you're looking for, but I had nothing but trouble getting decent performance out of XFree86 and my rage 128 (including frequent X Server crashes). I downloaded XF86 v. 4.4.0 (it's actually 4.3.99 I think) and the drivers included with that solved my problems.

If all else fails it could be worth a try.

What kind of motherboard is it? I noticed that my puter, running kernel 2.6.3, has these modules loaded, regarding agp stuff (its am Intel 440 BX, yep old slot 1):

Code:
r128 103232 26
intel-agp 17372 1
agpgart 31016 2 intel-agp
Another thing that came to mind is this. Is your BIOS configured to favor AGP over PCI video?

inserting via_agp module seemed to do the trick, the AGP should be running now..
I hope it will be stable enough
thank you all..
