Question re: installing fan/heatsink

Hi all!

Hope this is OK to ask on this part of the forum. While not specifically Linux-related, I will be running either Slackware or Suse on this system once done. :)
Here's my question...

Hi guys!

I'm building a new machine to run Linux on. I have a Foxconn 845 motherboard and am putting a 2Ghz Intel Celeron processor on it. The question is... There is a heatsink/fan that came with the processor and on the bottom of the heatsink where it would make contact with the processor (where normally I would dab a small amount of thermal paste), there's a square 'decal' attached. It's a small square foil decal but coated with a black substance that flakes off easily if touched. Is this to be removed so that the area underneath is kept 'sterile' or is this left on and simply placed on top of the chip (while still attached to the heatsink, of course) in place of the thermal paste? Or, does the thermal paste get spread on the 'decal'? I've never seen this little black square sticker before and am not finding any information in Google, et al. Hopefully, I've provided enough information. Any questions, just post. Of course, answers are even better!

Thanks much!
