Question about new motherboard/processor - I would expect a big increase in speed

Folks,

This may not be a Linux question really as much as a pure hardware issue.

I have upgraded my motherboard, processor, memory and HDD. I've gone from a core 2 duo running at about 2G, to a Sandybridge i5 Quad Core, P67 motherboard, faster memory and to a SATA III 6G from SATA II HDD. I have kept the old nvidia 8600GT card.

I would expect to see a reasonable increase in speed, but what I am actually seeing a fairly significant drop-off in performance.

Now, part of the issue here may be that I have gone from Mandriva 2010.0 to Mandriva 2011, but I must say I have found that as KDE4 has matured it's got faster, so I'm not convinced that is necessarily the issue.

Can anyone suggest methods of tracking down where any potential bottlenecks might be or maybe tell me that Linux isn't ready for a P67 motherboard or maybe i5 Sandybridge processors.

Many thanks!

Looks like it's Mandriva 2011. I tried putting my old hard drive with Mandriva 2010.0 on and it's fast. (I didn't think this would work, but it does.) Not really any sort of increase in speed over the old hardware, but at least it's not sluggish.
