Hi,

A swap partition provides virtual memory on the hard disk, which will be used if your real RAM gets filled up. It isn't essential to create one during installation, but it is recommended, particularly if your computer doesn't have a lot of RAM. It is also possible to create a swap partition at a later date if necessary.

There should be an option during installation to create a swap partition.

Hope this helps, and if you need more info, please ask.
