Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Quadro NVS 420 / rotating monitors through ninety degrees

I'd really like to get a quad monitor set-up going. I use the proprietary nvidia drivers for a dual monitor set-up which works really nicely. The Quadro NVS 420 looks like it would do me four monitors and it seems to have Linux support, but I'd like to have at least one of my monitors turned through ninety degrees as it would really helps with PDF reading which I do a lot.

KRandR seems to offer me this when using Intel graphics cards and I guess it would with nouveau, but nouveau is a non-starter as it just doesn't work well.

Is it possible to do what I want please?

Thanks!

Yeah, AFAIK its possible to run 1 monitor rotated and others in standard format with the nVidia closed drivers.

However, I've got to warn you off the NVS 420- they are crap. 2 x 8400GS GPUs, and the 8400GS is known to have issues. Dont get a quadro card at all unless you want to use professional 3D graphics (e.g. 3D studio max). Get a GT6XX card instead. Cheaper, faster, supports 4 monitors. I'd be checking the specs carefully on any GT6XX card you might think about getting though, some of them only support 2-3 monitors.
