Hello there my name is david and i have installed puppy linux onto a aser aspire 3680 about 2 days ago i have been searching through google for the past day and a half trying to get my sound card working ijust had backtrack 4 installed so i know my sound card works i am just wondering if anyone can give me some tips or hints on how to get this sound card working i have gone into alsamixer i have also configured my onboard sound card through alsaconf i have a hda-intel sound card i believe its name is Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition audio(that is one of the 4 cards listed in alsaconf the other three are probe:legacy ISA NON-PnP chips / Override: USB Sound Device / Override: apple onboard audio / the fourth one is the intel card i mentioned i really enjoy using puppy linux hope i can get it working a bit better hope to hear from you guys/gals soon thank you in advance

you installed puppy frugal on what what kind of machine. Why I ask is if you do not have a swap partition for puppy you cant use the sound card.
so you you have a swap. ok open a terminal and type alsaconf press enter.
or go into setup wizard and select sound

hmm i have tried to use alsaconf to configure the card with different drivers but i just made a lupu_save.sf2 since you mentioned you needed a swap partition so i created my lupu rebooted the system and it worked finally but after i tried to play 1 video it shut itself off all over again... i am also on a laptop.

alsaconf will find the correct driver it will be on top and that is the one to use.

hmm thank's for the reply let me try it, plus i am pretty sure i never tried the first driver on the list assuming it was default(already being used),

No never mad been where you have been many times. Take your time a use wolf and build a slackware pup you will like that slackware pup seems to be a lot more fun for me. But using Barry Kauler (founder designer of puppy linux) wolf build is a good learning experience. remember puppy linux is a hobby operating system. and is used as tools. the lucid pup is built from wolf.

For securety reasons you should change your password because everyone knows puppy linux password. open a terminal and type passwd then enter then put in your password.
Puppy is know joke it is a serious tool for the linux repair man or a great hobby OS. There are other pupplets that are built more secure.
if you have a 64 bit CPU Fatdog 64 bit is really fast wow.
