PSU problem

Hi everyone,

I have a SONY VAIO PCV-RX850 model desktop computer (Here is its specs http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Sony-VAI...udio-PCV-RX850 with FC7.

To get rid of the noise it was making, I bought a Zalman ZM460B-APS power supply which I thought compatible with the computer (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817379004).

However I couldn't make it work. I couldn't find out what might be the problem. Can they be incompatible? Any idea??

Yes, they are incompatable. Sony does not use the standard motherboard connector configuration. You will need to find a OEM replacement PSU.

This might work.

You might have already blown the motherboard with that power supply. If you want to use standard computer hardware like that power supply, you have to build the computer yourself. I suggest you build one yourself because SIS chipsets do not work easily in Linux. SIS graphics may work ok with 2D, but what I read it is horrible for 3D and maybe video playback.

Your motherboard might also need an AUX (AT) power connector. If you bought the correct adapter to convert a 20/24 ATX standard connector to a Sony power connector, it should work.

For my Abit TH7II-RAID motherboard, I had to come up with a way to add an AUX connector from an ATX connector because the Seasonic S12-430 (430 watts) did not come with one. I used an 24-pin to 20-pin ATX adapter (for more power) and splice an AUX connector to the correct wires of the adapter.
