PS3 and wireless Internet

Trying to run run wirelesss internet on the PS3/YEllow dog format and would like to know what you did to get it up and running. It runs fine when I am just on the PS3 mode but when I make the switch to YDL it won't run.

First make sure your firmware is completely up to date. Currently it's at 2.10. Once that is done, make sure you're running at least 5.0.1 YDL. It works for me if I'm not mistaken, although I don't use it. This should work 'out-of-the-box', no configuration needed.

Brandon

I am running the 5.0 version and I thought the same thing that I it would pick up the signal..but no dice.

MyHeartPumpsFreon 01-16-2008 03:59 PM

Currently there is 5.0.0, 5.0.1 and 5.0.2. To my knowledge, 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 pick up the card and are able to utilize it. Anything before that does not work. There was also a problem with the older (5.0.0) one that the card would stop working after updating the firmware to 2.0.

So, make sure you pick up the most recent copy of YDL (they're not bleeding edge, everything should work), make sure firmware is up to date and everything should be good to go. I had NO problems installing or running the wireless card once everything was up to date.

Regards,

Brandon

did you fix your connection problem?

I Have just install linux on my ps3 but the program is not finding the wireless card

derekd18 01-22-2008 09:08 AM

Nope and I am extremly dissappointed with this product. You would think that it would reconize the signal right away but it doesn't. I have tried everything too. I even had my friend come over and he is a computer geek and he was dumb founded. If you bought Linux for your PS3 and want wireless don't!!! It is a waste. I have even looked on numerous web-sites and it seems like there is a high % of people having this same problem/

wireless in YDL on PS3

I went through all sorts to figure this out.

Yellow Dog Linux has two main issues. Wireless won't work until you remove the wired network card in the network setup. remove the wireless also and reinstall it. this time choose the wireless to be eth0.

Set the wireless channel manually, it may take some messing with. My router is a linksys 300n and it's broadcasting on channel 6 but I took a shot in the dark and chose wireless channel 1 for my ps3 and internet came right up. That shouldn't of happened but it did.

Good luck.

The answer on setting up wireless internet for linux ps3

after searching like crazy all over the internet I finally found the answer on how to set up wireless internet for linux on your ps3. Believe it or not, the answer came from the linux web page itself. follow these instructions, you need an ethernet connection for setup

Introduction
There are 3 methods to upgrading the kernel for WiFi, and 3 associated HOWTOs, this being the first.
This HOWTO (the one you are now reading) is for a semi-automated kernel upgrade, and assumes your PS3 has a LAN (ethernet) connection to the Internet, under YDL.

This HOWTO guides you through upgrading the kernel where your PS3 under Linux does NOT have an internet connection, and requires the use of an additional personal computer and USB key or CD-R.

This HOWTO guides you through upgrading the kernel using the command line. This is for Linux savvy, advanced users.

WARNING!: This kernel upgrade is beta software and is not recommended in a production environment.

WARNING!: This script re-writes your kboot.conf which may render your system useless.

Upgrade the kernel, the semi-automated method

Open a terminal window by clicking on the Yellow Dog icon on the task bar, then Applications --> Accessories --> Gnome Terminal

To gain root access:
su - [ENTER]
When prompted, enter the root password.

Download the auto updater script:
wget http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/su...gWifiKernel.sh [ENTER]
... you will be presented with a progress bar and confirmation of download with "'ConfigWifiKernel.sh' saved [1089/1089]".

Then:
chmod 700 ConfigWifiKernel.sh [ENTER]
Run the script:
./ConfigWifiKernel.sh [ENTER]
Reboot the computer:
reboot [ENTER]
