PS/2 mouse and driver for wireless lan in PCMCIA slot creating problems

hello guys,
i have installed Red HAT LINUX 8.0 on compaq presario 1500:

First of all PS/2 mouse cant be installed also leptop mouse pad is also not working..but USB mouse is working so can u tell me what is the problem.

secondly i am trying to install wireless card in PCMCIA slot..The name wireless lan card model is EW-7108PCg manufactured by EDIMAX...the driver for this wireless card downloaded from //ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm..
i have tried the following driver:

1-RT2500-Linux-STA-1.4.6.2.tar
2-RT2500-Linux-STA-1.4.4.0.tar
3-RT2500-Linux-STA-1.4.1.0.tar
4-RT2500-Linux-STA-1.4.6.2.tar

As suggested in text file i followed the steps
first step says
1-for kernel version 2.4.x,
cp ./2.4.x/Makefile

to accomplish this task i have copied the Makefile in /lib/modules/

2-$make config
when i run the above command
Linux kernel source directory [/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-14]:

As in my case it is /lib/modules/2.4.18-14 i enter this path
In all drivers following problem appears:
THe following ERROR appears:

Linux kernel source directory : /lib/modules/2.4.18-14

expr: syntax error
./Configure: line 111: [: -lt: unary operator expected
Module install directory : /lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/net
[/B]

so kindly guide me what is wrong either the driver has a problem but all drivers giving the same problem..or i am making some mistake..one of the guys in another forum told me that it seems from the error that linux source is not install..what does he mean by linux source..
or i have to do some thing else..waiting for reply.

also my card doesnot give any beeps.
bye
