Problems with Radeon 9600 on RedHat 9
Hi everybody,
I have a problem with the ATI Radeon 9600. I installed the ATI driver with 'rpm -Uvh drivername.rpm --force' but there was an error: *** Trying to install a precompiled kernel module. *** WARNING *** Tailored kernel module for fglrx not present in your system. You must go to /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod subdir and execute './make.sh' to build a fully customed kernel module. Afterwards go to /lib/modules/fglrx and run './make_install.sh' in order to install the module into your kernel's module repository. (see readme.txt for more details.) As of now you can still run your XServer in 2D, but hardware acclerated OpenGL will not work and 2D graphics will lack performance. failed. *** Found kernel module build environment, generating kernel module now. ATI module generator V 2.0 ========================== (Then it starts to install the driver, but after installing OpenGL doesn't work) I saw here in the forum that some motherboards are not supported by older kernels, and perhaps thats the problem .... I have redhat 9 with kernel 2.4.20-8, AMD Athlon with GA-7VX motherboard and VIA KX133 chipset Thx for help GhoSt |
Hope u found a way around this prob! Cuz i have the same prob!!

I did this and got my 3d acceleration to work on mandrake 9.2 with a radeon 9600.
1. Download and install your kernel source rpm, if its mandrake 9.2 default should be 2.4.22.10. install with: rpm -i --force <filename> 2. Download the latest ATI driver for your Xfree version install with: rpm -i --force <filename> 3 go into /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod and type ./make.sh 4 go back one dir to /lib/modules/fglrx and type ./make_install.sh 5 run fglrxconfig and setup your hardware accordingly 6 reboot and hope it works |
Ok, thanks, but I think I need a newer kernel, I have kernel 2.4.20-8
