Does the usb drive require any modules to be installed? Is usb support compiled into the kernel? Which kernel did you install? What is the output of lsmod?

Even in rh9

Yes the same problem persists in redhat 9 as well.

Yesterday i took the source(2.4.21) from kernel.org and complied it. and i started fedora core. now when i insert the usb drive. the system function

but if i give the following command
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/flash

it is saying that /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device

any suggestions please
