Problems with NEC DVDRW drive

Alright, I got an NEC DVDRW drive for Christmas, but I can't get the thing to work. It has three jumper settings on the back, each of which I've tried: CSEL, Slave, and Master.
Here's what happened with each:

Master:
When I booted back up, SuSE 9.2 recognized it and mounted it to /media/dvdrecorder/.
When I try to get into /media/dvdrecorder/, Konqueror says: Could not enter folder: /media/dvdrecorder. When I try opening programs that use the CD or DVD drive, I get similiar errors.

CSEL:
Nothing. It didn't even recognize it.

Slave:
Same as Master.

What do I do??

so...if i understand ok, you have a data-cd ( or dvd ) in the drive at boot, and it's mounted auto ?
or, after boot, you put-in a data-disc, wich is mounted ?

You may have to flash the firmware (windows only, as far as I know) However that normally doesn't happen. Is this your only drive? If it is set it to master. Make sure it is correctly I dentified by your bios. And try a manual mount. I haven't got the chance to play with my DVD drive yet. Can't any destrib to work, Fedora - doesn't boot after install, Same with gentoo but its probably my fault, Slackware -Ati drivers kill it (fonts).
