Unhappy Problems with acpi/sleep/suspend on laptop

Hey everyone

The last few days I've been trying to get acpi fully functional on my laptop. So far, I'm able to sleep/standby (power state S1) and hibernate (ie suspend to disk, power state S4). I've run into a few problems that I haven't been able to solve, hopefully thats where someone here will come in:

1. In order to successfully resume from either standby or hibernate I have to set "no_dri" to "yes" in my xorg.conf file. If I don't do this, X doesn't properly restart and the system crashes. A hard reset is required to do anything. Has anyone had any luck getting either of these features working using dri with ATI drivers? Unfortunately I'm not really familiar with dri (I suspect it has something to do with hardware excelleration but I'm not sure) so I'm not sure how to proceed.

2. My laptop has a special sleep button that is accessed by using a function key. Currently my ACPI system does not recognize the key when it is pressed. Is there a way to map the key to a specific ACPI event? I know its possible to map the key in X but I'm not sure it its possible to map it to an event.

Here are my specs:
-------------------------
Slackware 10.1
Custom 2.6.10 + swsusp2
ATI proprietary drivers

Thanks
Kierse

Which laptop are you talking about? Have you checked www.linux-laptop.net to see if there are any clues on that site?

Could you give us the output of "lspci" (minus the quotes and probably needs to be run as root) so we can see what hardware you are running.
