Problems mounting a disk in VMware Linux

I'm running CentOS 5.4 on a virtualized Mac. I had mounted an external USB disk, and everything was fine. But then I inadvertantly unplugged the drive without unmounting it. Now when I plug in the drive, I get a message from MacOS that it cannot recognize the disk, and I can't mount it on this machine.

Is there anything I can do? I am still able to mount the disk on a different pure Linux machine (no VMware) and I ran fsck on the disk and everything was fine. Can I do something so that the MacOs/VMware/Linux machine can mount it?

You could try removing the device configuration from the vmware machine settings, reboot the vm, shut it down, pop in the USB drive, and start up again.

Failing that, it may be an issue with the host OS.
