Hi,
Ive spent the last two weeks trying to install my Lucent Winmodem.
Ive tried just about everything but nothing seems to work. I am using Mandrake 9.2 and running kernel version 2.4.22. Ive installed the correct driver and it seemed to install without problems but it seems to make no difference. I cant think of anything else to do, ive read lods of docs and still getting nowhere. Ive read previously posted problems on this and they dont work for me.
Any help on this one would be seriously appreciated.
Thanks.
Are you looking in the Mandrake Drakconnect wizard? I tried to set up my connection with this and had no result, in fact, it still wants me to try to dial up using a connection that I no longer use. Try cliking on the K button, going to networking then remote access. Do you see KPPP?
If you do, all you need to do is configure this to dial up to your ISP.
I assume you are using the KDE Desktop environment. If you are using GNOME, I'm sure its pretty similar.
Have a look in /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk/ltmodem and you should find lt_modem.o and lt_serial.o.Run insmod -f /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk/ltmodem/lt_modem.o and insmod -f /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk/ltmodem/lt_serial.o.
Run lsmod and check that you now have lt_modem and lt_serial loaded.
Set up kppp (do not use MDK 9.2 internet connect tool),and change from device > /dev/modem to /dev/ttySLTO.
Thanks for all your help so far,
I checked the Kernel version and im using the correct one. I loaded the two modules (lt_serial.o and lt_modem.o) and made sure they loaded correctly. However I didn't have kppp, so I downloaded it. When I tried to install kppp I got a message saying it would not install because I didnt have a QT libraries version greater than 1.42.
So I downloaded them, set the classpaths and instaled the libraries , seemed fine. But, now when I try to install kppp I still get the same error message. It just seems to be one problem after another.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks,
Colm.
KPPP is on the MDK 9.2 set of CD's.It is not loaded by default,so just install it from your CD's.
You might have to run kppp from konsole for the first time, but after that you can make a short cut from your desktop, and it should work fine.
