Problems installing BCM Modem Drivers on Fedora Core 1
 

Hi everyone,

I'm sort of a n00b to linux, but I've solved all of my hardware problems except with one. I have a Dell 4550, with the "Broadcom BCM V.90 Modem", which is supposedly a softmodem. I've read the tutorials here (at least most of them, i think), with to no avail. I've donwloaded several versions of the drivers, all for different versions (including the Dell ones). I compiled the drivers to my version using differnt sets of instructions as exactly as I could, and each time I got a plethora of errors. I noticed that some of the errors were because it was looknig in different folders (obviously directory structures that were in older versions).

Anyway, here's the modem readout from lspci.......

Softmodem support can be enabled using this driver... but dont go for an RPM, try a Tarball and make sure u compile it according to your current kernel.

The after that read the documentation on their website...

If all else fails, you shouldnt even be using a softmodem in the first place, as this is not actually a modem rather a chipset recognized as a modem by Windows.

Good luck and if anyone can help us out farther, please do, I havent much experience with softmodems, but thats how i got one working on a Dell Inspiron 1100 once.
