problems installing ati driver in fc6

okay ive recently installed fc6 and attempted to install the livna ati drivers for my ati radeon xpress 200. they have worked before in fc5 but now they dont. i get a black screen when i reboot once. when i reboot twice im back to mesa. i tried using the script from this site (http://www.phoronix.com/redblog/?p=blog&i=NTU1MA) but when i use the script it appears as if it installed the rpm's but im still using mesa. i tried to download the driver from the ati site and install it using this command:

]# sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.29.6.run --buildpkg Fedora/FC6

but i get this:

Creating directory fglrx-install
Verifying archive integrity... All good.

i followed the instructions from that thread and everything seemed to go smoothly. it rebooted fine but when i ran glxinfo | grep direct to see if direct rendering was enabled i found this line: Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". What does this mean?
