Problems getting modem on the Gateway EV700 Bookend PC to work in Linux Mandrake 9.1

I'm having problems getting the modem (Intel 82801AA AC97 PCI Modem) on my brother's Gateway EV700 Bookend PC to work in Linux Mandrake 9.1, it wont connect to the Internet at all when using KPPP, do yall have any suggestions on to get this modem to work in Linux Mandrake 9.1.

Hello

I installed the modem using SmartLink slmodem-2.9.9.tar driver

The sytem seems to detect the modem correctly, however when I try to connect ot the internet using either wvdial or kppp, I receive the following error:

NO DIALTONE

Any suggestions?
