I have a Rage 128 pro also...Use the command 'xf86config', select your horiz. and vert syncs, use the ati driver (number 66 i think)....then set your resolution, then select 24k colors, 32k wont start...save it then startx.

Hope this helps if you haven't gotten it yet.

Its a long shot, but try adding the line

DefaultDepth 16

to your XF86Config.... I used this to get a R128 to work once...
good luck, nukkel

Unhappy card still giving problems

Man i have tried it all, for some reason it still hates me...
the default depth and going threw the config.

i have alse took X -configure and tried to merge it with the
files where they have given me so that i could get my monitor
and graphics card at the proper setting's pull have it set to the right depth etc... A bib prob is my moniter like when everthing is specified corectly for some reason it goes below my capeable VF like 49 when my lowest is 50. Even though i specified in XF86Config that it's between 50-160 :S....
it's the combination of my moniter & my graphics card
but i'll keep trying thnax for the help soo far..
and if anyone else has suggestions i'd really appreacite them

thanx again (B)

I set you up for 3d acceleration,
make sure your loading your agpgart module, as the warning says.

When you get it loaded correctly and confirm you have dri enabled [...you can use glxinfo], if you wanna try for a little more performance, put
Code:
    Option "AGPMode" "2"
...in Section "Device" just underneath your driver "ati".

And if that's solid, go for agpmode 4.
