I'm trying to setup zoneminder on a new box. I received my 5008 capture card from camsecure.co.uk today. I got it installed but can't get it to produce any video other than a screen with white lines. Here's a screen shot of what it's doing. http://i.imgur.com/TpPVuYt.png
I'm running the latest zoneminder on a slackware 14.1 system. Any help would be much appreciated.
I noticed that only the top 3 capture cards are ideal for Linux Zoneminder.
*-*Note all 3 cards are Linux compatable but only the 4channel 25 FPS and 8 channel 240 FPS will work with WDM drivers.*-*
Looks like you have to edit a configuration file.
Quote:
It works great with LINUX
and instructions are supplied for the '/etc/modprobe.d/bttv.conf' file
when using the card with LINUX and Zoneminder.
Looks like all you have to do is edit the configuration file mentioned above:-
Do you have one of the 2 4 channel high performance cards or the 8 channel?
Did a booklet or pamphlet come with the card?
Turns out the card was faulty. I sent it back to get a refund since it took 9 weeks to get it from them.
I tried it in a couple of different computers including a windows computer where I used the driver they supplied on a disc. All it would do is display that video signal with the white and black bars.

Kind of an odd situation. I ordered it, and 5 weeks later I get a random email from camsecure that my "replacement order" has been sent. 4 weeks after that I got a broken card in the mail.

Odd; indeed.
Replacement order? Unless they made a mistake on the first order arrangements that were made from the beginning. Customer invoices may have gotten mixed up?
It seems that the random e-mail implies that maybe they were out of stock?
-:-I'm not so sure that I would make another purchase with this company.-:-
I'm not going to make another order from them. It takes less time to get stuff here from China than it does from those guys in the UK. There is something going wrong on their end, that's for sure.
I have 7 cameras and a zoneminder box. The card I was using failed and fried the only PCI slot in the box. I replaced the motherboard with something newer since it has been in use for several years now and not acting right, and got that card which turned out to be DOA. I'm having a hard time finding a card that has a respectable frame rate, not too expensive and linux compatible. I have several DVR cards that are 8 channel and 16 channel laying around but none seem to work with linux. I've tried 4 of these Geovision cards with no luck. BTTV doesn't seem to like these cards and the only linux driver for the techwell chipset these cards use won't compile on this system for reasons that seem to baffel the community that wrote them.
I think I might just go to IP cameras and ditch the DVR cards for the zoneminder box. I hate that because it worked with the old DVR card for 5 years straight without a problem until the card failed. It will be a lot of work to swap out all the cameras and it might be more CPU intensive than a DVR card with a built in encoder but this system is a higher end Xeon box now that doesn't do anything else. IP cameras will cost more too but I'm sure those will work instead of these hit or miss DVR cards.

What rate are you looking for?
Is there a certain manufacturer that you prefer or trust?
You might just have to save up for something decent.
Sadly so you only get what you pay for these days.
I looked at a few of the IP cameras online and I can't say I like the design but it appears that they will get the job done. What caught my eye is some of them have night vision.
The D-Link ip cam works great. Easy to set up with zoneminder too. I did have to do a firmware update on the first camera to solve a connection issue. The rest of the cameras were new and came with the newer firmware. The picture quality is better than the DVR cards I've had in the past. I got a power supply to power all 8 cameras. Next I'm going to get a tilt pan zoom camera and have a play with that. The system has been running for a month straight with no problems. No strange videos to report yet, although a couple of years ago with the old camera I caught a lady shoveling dog poo at our backdoor.
Camsecure.co.uk never gave me my refund. They said they would be happy to refund me if I sent the card back. I did and they never returned any of my emails after they received the card. No refund and nothing. I've tried calling them and they don't pick up the phone. Since they are in another country it's hard for me to do anything else so I guess I'm out ~$200 on that deal. Just let you know they aren't reputable and should be avoided if you or anyone needs to order anything.

Glad to hear the new cam works for you.
If you really want to you could make copies of all of the invoices and e-mails that show proof of your dealings with Camsecure and submit it to your local court house and file a complaint asking the Judge to give you financial favor.
In addition to that you could file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau- http://www.bbb.org/
There is generally a fee for filing a complaint and the courts clerk should be able to tell you what that is.
