Question Problem with sudden reboot of NF4K8AC Mobo...

Hi all!

I'm having a problem in Windows of a sudden reboot using the NF4K8AC Winfast Foxconn Mobo, with an AMD 64 3200+ system

I'm thinking it's to do with the chipset, when the system last shutdown, I decided to have a snoop, and the chipset sink almost burned me when I tapped it.

The system can be running quite normally, and then anything running on it hangs, and then the system goes straight into boot up, no shutdown or anything!

Any help would be appreciated, do I need to get better cooling for it?

Tom

Hi Tom "Techno" Earl, This will likely get moved to general where Windows questions normally go but, until then, yes this sounds like overheating. Did you build this or buy it? If you built it did you put thermal paste between the chip and heatsink?
Good luck. ;-)

Hey,

Thanks for the reply, I did build the box, but the motherboard came with the chipset fan already installed, so I didn't think to check

I will check on that later, and maybe add some paste if there isn't any!

You may also want to physically check the fans to ensure they're running, and run memtest. You can also change the start up and recovery settings, uncheck restart. That should give you the bsod with a vxd error that could help track down the offending hardware if it is a hardware problem.
Good luck. ;-)

Check the chipset fan for proper rotation. Which way is the fan rotating? Anything obstructing the air flow? Cables blocking? Do you have adequate chassis fan(s) for exchange within the box?

Most newer chipset heat sinks are mounted to the the motherboard. Older units had the sink epoxied to the chip.
