Problem with resolution button on Ideazon Reaper mouse

I have a new Ideazon Reaper optical USB mouse, and one of the features of the mouse is that it has a small button on the top of the mouse that lets me change the DPI resolution of the mouse. When I press the button the resolution of the mouse changes properly, but apparently the mouse is also sending some kind of event to the machine, and that's what's causing the problem.

When I press the button bad things happen. The Gnome volume control applet pops up, and switches between mute and unmute each time I press the button. But the keyboard also stops responding. When I press the button I get a lot of "5·" repeated over and over on the console. When I do "cat /dev/input/mouse0" and press the button I get a lot of "^[[25·" repeated over and over.

Is there any way to fix this or tell X to ignore the event?

Edit: I'm running Debian, if that matters.

I just figured out that if I disable the Gnome shortcut to bring up the volume control then I can press that button and the keyboard keeps working. So that seems to be a workaround, but I'm still hoping there's a better way to fix this.
