Question Problem with CM8738 onoard soundcard

hello, everybody.

At first i must say, that i'm a linux newbie, so please answer, like i'm an idiot, which can only push keys and move the mouse.
I love listen to music, so this is very important for me.

I have an asus Mainboard (a7v-266e) with an onboard soundcard called CM8738. I installed debian+kde on my system, but the soundcard doesn't work. I don't know what i can do against that. Under Knoppix the soundcard works fine.
Can anybody help me?, i hope that enough information, if not, just ask.

thx, mike

Do you have the alsa drivers installed?

I'm pretty sure you can apt-get them on debian but since I've never used debian I can't say for sure. Also make sure once their installed to also install the alsa-utils so you can unmute the channels includeing the headphones ( you may want to check the channels first )

Change to the root user and try typing the following:
modprobe cmpci
and then find a sound file and try playing it (play sound.wav).
