problem while installing alsa1.0.23 for centos 5.5
i was not able to install alsa...showing the error
checking for directory with kernel source... Please install the package with full kernel sources for your distribution
or use --with-kernel=dir option to specify another directory with kernel
sources (default is /lib/modules/2.6.18-194.el5xen/source).
my friends installed the alsa for cent os 5.4...how to rectify this...
i am using a dell studi 14 laptop....pls help
Elrepo also has a 1.0.20 kmod. Even if you do not want to use it you might want to pull the source rpm and look at the spec file to see what patches needed to be applied in order to get it to run(always a good place to start).
Distribution: PCLinuxOS2023 Fedora38 + 50+ other Linux OS, for test only.

Rep:
CentOS 5.5 has alsa version 1.0.17 .
Package names : alsa-lib , alsa-lib-devel, alsa-utils.
Why do you think that a later version is required ?
1.0.23 may be impossible to install. 'kernel-devel' won't do.
The full kernel source is required, and it's not available as a package.
You will have to patch it all up from the kernel SRC RPM.
