Problem rebuilding a RAID 1

Hi All,

I'm have problems with my NVIDIA MCP55 Raid card. Drive 0 crashed on me and I trying to rebuild the array with a new drive. I moved drive 1 to drive 0 place and installed to clean drive. I when to raid card bios and had it rebuild the array. It changed the status of the raid to rebuild but don't seem to do any thing else. I rebooted the machine and kernel panics. I understand this uses dmraid or fakeraid. Is there something else I have to do get it to sync the drives in the os.

Machine Runs
Centos 5
Drives are the same model and size.

Normally if your RAID 1 array has a failed disk, and you're using a "fakeraid" card, you shut the machine down, replace the broken disk with a new identical one (no swapping the other drive) and reboot. The card bios should give you the option to rebuild the array, which takes time. After waiting for the process to complete, you usually reboot and life continues as it did.

From your description I'm guessing that the rebuild didn't finish.

Actually, given the nature of RAID 1, even if one of your drives failed, you should have been able to reboot using the remaining one and rebuild the raid system from inside the OS.

I will try giving it more time to resync the drives. I agree I may have jump the gun to early last I tried this. I didn't see disk activity so I didn't think it was doing anything. If that should not work. Is there any down side to using dd command to clone the drives.
