Problem: Promise SATA w/ 2.6.3 kernel freezes computer
I've got an Asus A7N8X-Del mobo (w/ it's SATA disabled due to it being fubared), and a Promise SATA150 TX2Plus. I'm not using RAID, or anything like that, just 3 CD/DVD-ROM/RWs and a IDE HD on my primary mobo channels, and a single SATA drive on my PCI card. It seems that in every distro of Linux I've tried (Mandrake Cooker, Gentoo) w/ 2.6 kernel support (support for this controller w/ 2.4 is almost nonexistent aside from RH9) except for RH9 and Fedora Core 2 end with the system locking up and the HD led being lit solid. A few times during Mdk 10's install (fails to init and shit, but that's a seperate prob I gave up on), and some random time during Gentoo's install. I already tried turning of ACPI support in the kernel when I configure it and on the live CD (I'm bent on Gentoo now). Anyone have any idea what's going on?
