I'm using gentoo Linux with the 2.4 kernel, and I'm having trouble getting my Epson Stylus Photo 825 to work properly. Whenever my system boots up, I see messages like this:

usb.c - USB hub detected
usb.c - Mass storage device detected
usb.c - unknown device, unclaimed by driver

Now, I remember from using Windows that the system seems to treat the printer as a hub with a mass storage device (for the pcmcia flash card reader) and a printer attached. Windows had no trouble detecting and configuring both, but Linux only seems to be able to detect one.

I tried following the gentoo printer installation and it says that I have to recompile the kernel with printer modules. I used the kernel module selector to add in printers as a module, rebooted, and tried to go modprobe printer, but the system says it can't find printers.o

What should I do?
