problem configuring sound card
Hi,
I have installed Mandriva 2007.0 Free on a Gateway E3200 system which is a dual-boot with Windows 98SE. In linux, I am having problems configuring the soundcard. Under Win98 the sound card is reported as "Crystal WDM Audio Codec" but in Mandriva nothing is detected initially when I run sndconfig. Similarly nothing related to audio or sound cards appears when I run 'drakconf' as root and try to detect hardware, but everything else (zipdrive, cdrom, videocard, etc) does show up.
But, I run sndconfig (as root) and it says "No PnP or PCI sound cards were found in your system. Please select your card type from the following list." I have then selected "Windows Sound System (AD1848/CS4248/CS4231) and then leave the settings that come up as they are [I/o 0x530, IRQ 5, DMA1 0, DMA2 0). After pressing OK, I hear the sound and then everything hangs; then I have to press the reset button. Any ideas what goes here? What am I doing wrong? Thanks
