Cupsd.conf is 831 lines how do I copy it. I noticed that most of the writing is in blue. These are mainly instructions. I have copied out the bits written in white which seem to me to be default settings. I dont know if this will help

what is the server name, or netbios name of the w2k machine? i'm wondering if you have the smb backend since it lists location unknown. the network configuration looks good, have you tried removing the printer from the mandrake machine, and configuring it again? what does

smbclient -L name of w2k machine

return?

Hi Peacedog, the W2K machine is called "Dialup".

I will do the printer when I get back in this evening as well the resuslt of smbclient -l

It may be OT, but a
Allow From 192.168.0.*
in the conf may help, in any rate, a wise advise to reinstall the printer is good. Are you able to browse the machine where the printer is hooked up through your SMB Explorer/MS Explorer? is it in the correct workgroup/domain? Have you tried to add it to your client machines by creating a "IP Printer port" (in Win)?

The W2K machine is called "Dialup" becos it is my dialup server to the \\\internet.

Ihave removed it form the Mandrake Machine, and guest what? It cannot find it anymore. When I do a hardware/printer installation using the Mandrake control panel, it says "no network printer found"

Yes I can see Dialup in workgroup in SMB Explorer.

Yes the printer is in the right workgroup called "WORKGROUP"

three things does your logged in user have a valid account on the windows box? does the windows box run a firewall? have you tried rebooting the windows machine and restarting services on the linux box?

Its the firewall on the W2K machine. The firewall itself is all messed up. Gonna have to rebuild it and then try again. Not going to make any changes on the Mandrake PC so that I can test it out once I've rebuilt the W2K PC.

Once this is sorted, the next thing I am loking at doing is to move the files from a W2K Server unto a Mandrake server and make the share available to all clients of the Mandrake Server. Any ideas on where I can read up on the how to?.
