I am trying to get my HP laserjet 6P working with redhat 9 and cannot seem to get anywhere.
When I enter print manager
I get the message "no printers found, run the configuration tool?"
Then I set up the printer, the configuration tool already has selected the printer at /dev/lp0 as a HP 6P and has selected the correct driver. I then click apply, close that printer config window back to the print queue. But there are no printers showing??
Even if I restart there are no printers showing.
I have a feeling the redhat auto hardware detect at startup might have something to do with it. It used to come up everytime you disconnected the printer (or turned it off). The you could remove the printer config, and just auto reconfig when you restarted with the printer on). Once when the hardware config screen came up during boot, i selected ignore printer config. Now I have never been able to select to configure my printer at boot time?
I can get the whole way through then when i exit /usr/bin/kaddprinterwizard I get:
[root@gamma /]# /usr/bin/kaddprinterwizard
mv: cannot move `/tmp/kde-root/foomatic_COT1vGJ' to `/etc/foomatic/lpd/myprint.lom': No such file or directory
[root@gamma /]#
ps normally I use Gnome, so I had to switch desktop for the kde add printer to work at all?
thanks again for the help, but it still does not seem to be working.
after adding lpd to /etc/foomatic/
The printer setup seemed to go ok, but then when I tried to print test page I got the following error:
mcop warning: user defined signal handler found for SIG_PIPE, overriding
and then something about error communicating or finding print queue?
Is there any old settings which could be stopping normal operations? After all the printer used to work under the same install of redhat 9?? I think the auto hardware detection on startup might have something to do with it as the printer never comes up as an option anymore like it used to at boot?
