printer drivers not installing...

i'm trying to install my printer drivers by a CD provided by the manufacturer using wine....but the installation stops notifying,
Code:

print spooler service has been stopped.
restart your computer and try again.

how to install my printer on Linux then ?
Is there any other method to do that...??

Hi,

Most, if not all, Linux distros nowadays use CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) so I advise you to download the correct driver for your printer (if it's not already available on your system in CUPS) and use CUPS for printing. I've never even tried to use the Windows printer drivers in Wine.

Check if you have cups installed and running by browsing to http://localhost:631

If you indicate what distro and version you are using and which printer make and model you are trying to install, I'm sure LQ can help you out. As always, the more information you provide, the better answers you get.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hello,

Since you yet fail to mention what distro you are using I can only guess and point you to, one of the many, links found by Google. This one in particular is for Ubuntu which seems to work. The link to the driver however fails, so I searched it for you and found it here.

Hope it helps.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hi,

If you would have read my post carefully you'll notice that I indicated that. I also posted a working link to the same software. You should read a post entirely before clicking on the first link you encounter.

Kind regards,

Eric

canon pixma ip2200 drivers are available by CUPS too...but i wished that i could get ip1300 drivers...

EricTRA 06-29-2011 05:25 AM

Hi,

Most likely they are not the same but they seem to be compatible, that is, it looks like you can use the driver for the ip2200 to get the ip1300 to work. If they are available for CUPS, then you could use them directly and see if it works for you.

Kind regards,

Eric
