printer cable > modem cable?

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Okay, I have a whole bunch of printer cables, but no modem cable. The printer cable is the right gender and right number of pins, but it doesn't work. I know this works somewhat like a crossover ethernet cable. I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron, and I don't want to buy a modem cable (yes, I am cheap).. Is there a way I can change a printer cable into a modem cable?I guess I need to know which wires to toy with.
edit: its DB25 male - male.

You can find lots of info on the web. Search for RS-232 and serial null modem cables.

The simplest null modem serial cable if you don't need hardware flow control is
2 - 3
3 - 2
7 - 7
