Print server with Canon

JOh people,

I have bought a Canon PIXMA iP2000 (USB). I have a small-server (linux, Slackware 10.1) here at home.

What's the best way to make my server a printer-server (for windows network as well, samba). I want to run a spooler so I can print through that server and my bro and sister through the samba network (btw, that one is running oke)

I couldn't find any "drivers" or help on the net :(

Hope u people can help me

Greetz,
alitrix

Edit: too slow, maybe one of the links above has the answer. I sure hope so. Turboprint sucks.

Unfortunately Canon flat out will not support linux either by offering a driver for the printer you paid good money for, or by releasing the specs so someone else could make a gpl-compatible driver. I hate to recommend it but there is a driver sold by turboprint.de for the canon pixma series. There is a free version available for download, but it is limited in resolution and puts a watermark on the print jobs. I made the mistake of buying a pixma 1500 and am still trying to make it work.

I did notice during my last SuSE 10 install that there is a package that acts as a wrapper for the windows driver, but I can't remember what the program was called that does it.

I've heard (some) good things about Turboprint

It just bugs me that I have to pay $40US to get a driver so I can use a printer I paid $50US for. There is something just wrong with that. In the future I buy only HP printers.
