Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Print Server Problem

I have had to quickly set up a print server to replace a RedHat 6 box that was providing printing to our database server.

The printer is a HP4000, set up on the network, via CUPS on a RedHat 9 box. The print server accepts print jobs OK from the database server (took a while...) but the problem is that we are getting control chars printed, that the accounts department are getting annoyed with.

The chars are as follows (all Y have umlauts):

Y&R4S
Y&d0DD
Y&k0S

Any idea how to eliminate these? The problem could be at either end, although I don't think that much change in the db server printcap, other than changing the name of the print server...

Cheers

Dan
