Power Wont turn off automatically
Ok I have a compaq presario which now it runs linux all the time. I have installed SUSE and Fedora and I get the same problem .. when I need it to turn off )for electricity purposes) When i give it the shutdown it will say something like system halted... ok and it just hangs there ..with Fedora..says hda stopped ... ok
power down... I have to manually then turn off the machine but im afraid that is doing some damage to the hd's as I have had to replace 2 of them within the last 3 months So if you have any comments or ideas please let me know thank you for your time |
Turn on the ACPI. You can do that by adding the option acpi=on to the kernel in the /etc/lilo.conf or /boot/grub.conf depending on your boot manager...

tried it and have the same problem
|
Manually powering down the PC vs automatically should not damage the hard drives.
What is the model number of your PC? |
its a compaq presario 5001 SR series
|
Try "acpi=off". It worked on my ThinkPad with the same problem with SuSe 10.0.
