Disclaimer: I'm not knowledgable about USB devices. However, there are a few more basic issues that I would expect need to be considered first, such as: Are the file formats going to be compatible between Linux and Windows? I expect that if you were to copy a jpeg or a txt file to, say, a thumb drive on your Linux box and then plug the thumb drive into the laptop, that Yes, that kind of transfer method would probably work since those formats are recognized by both OS's. On the other hand, if you're going to attempt to transfer a tgz or an executable like grep to Windows, there would be no point because Windows won't know what to do with them. Also, if your plan would be to just connect the 2 machines together with a cable, then I expect you also would need to create at least some sort of basic network in order for them to talk to one another. I can't imagine that you'd be able to successfully copy a file from Linux to your laptop simply by connecting a cable between them. Then again, I admit I don't know much about USB. Perhaps you could just give it a go, and see if it works. Sorry I don't have a more detailed answer, but I figured I had to at least mention these 2 basic points. -- J.W.
