please HELP : SOS : ADSL SpeedTouch USB modem

I have RedHat 8.0 (kernel 2.4.18-19.8.0) installed and
tried to connect to the internet via ADSL SpeedTouch modem (provider BT -UK and we have a static IP address) http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/produsb.htm using http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/in...wnload.en.html drivers and instructions. During instalation everything went fine, i had no errors .

after running connection demon i tried

[root@server alex]# ifconfig ppp0

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
POINTOPOINT NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

but due to the luck of expirience with linux i can not understand why i can't browse or ping any sites outside despite of the fact that installation and hardware seems to be ok. Please help.

your ppp0 doesn't look like it's working because it has no ip address.

try adding a "debug" line to /etc/ppp/options and stop and start the daemon again, then take a look at /var/log/messages and see if there're any pppd errors.
